Analysis of Project in the Real World

Learning advertising is a great way to learn about how products are promoted and what advertising executives do to make their product successful. Be creative, focus on drawing customers as you would for a real world campaign, and make sure to get as much out of it as possible.

Creative Content

One of the most popular ways to promote something is the use of a TV commercial.

Promotion

You can make a Magazine ad, a billboard or a video. You can use drawing, digital work or photography

The Big Idea

The big idea is the concept that will set your campaign apart from the rest. What will you do to attract customers? The key is to find something that will be popular with a wide range of customers and clients and doesn't have to change constantly.

Competitive Analyses

·      How do they draw customers and clients?
·      What amenities or facilities are offered that you don't have?
·      What challenges are they facing?
·      How do they plan on improving?

Week 7 EOC: The Pitch

The Pitch

2014 Range Rover Sport is one of the newest range rover’s on the market today and is also the top seller of the U.S last year.  They also added amazing new features to this new Rover. Like a 2 wheel drive system that analyzes the terrain ahead some examples are general, grass, gravel, snow, mud, ruts, and sand. They also reduced the weight of the range rover 800 pounds less. Makin it a lot lighter and way faster. It’s a lot longer, wider and lower. This Rover maybe a lot faster than the others but this car is also family friendly. 2 hidden pop up seats in the back row for more children or you can hide the seats making the back more spacious to put luggage or groceries in the back. The Range Rover is making it a lot safer and easier to ride a car with blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision sensing, cross-car traffic detection, and parallel-parking assists. Not only is it safe but you can make it your own unique style. You can choose your own engine and there are a variety of different models of the car with different features and you gets to choose which one is more suitable for you. This car is designed to be one of the most dynamic/contemporary cars and also to have “Drive Me!” written all over it when you lay your eyes on it for the first time. This car is perfect for the parents who like to have a little fun.  It’s definitely a family car by day and a sports car by night.

BOC Week 6 : Duck Dynasty

Duck Dynasty

The show Duck Dynasty the first episode of season 4 premiered on A&E this Wednesday and surprised the whole world by blowing everyone away with nearly 12 million views knocking out other reality shows such as Jon and Kate plus 8 which drew  10.6 million viewers in 2009. Even though Duck Dynasty is based on one kind of audience which is like rednecks hillbilly type of audience (http://www.celebritynetworth.com/richest-businessmen/ceos/willie-robertson-duck-commander-net-worth/). By the looks of it they drew in a lot more attention of all kinds of viewers than you think. The range of adults that mostly likely watch this show is adults from 18-49 and 25-54 for the second quarter of this week — rising 17% in both categories — while placing sixth in total viewers (up 19%). Today, Duck Dynasty is one of the most popular shows on television airing in over 40 countries. The third season's final episode drew an audience of over 10 million people and beat out network shows like American Idol. Duck Dynasty have made a big impact for A&E. This show is great for all viewers because it’s a family show. When you watch this show for the first time you get stuck on it and really want to watch the show again. Its draws audience in. Their wives look like beautiful high class women and you wonder why they are with men like them but, it has a twist to it the Robertson’s look like typical rednecks and obviously by just looking at them it seems as though they are just plan country but behind the beards there is a lot more. They are all we educated and also participated in sports during high school and studied business in College. Looking at this show you would think that it’s just some rednecks but you have to really watch the show to understand that they are a lot more than just rednecks.

EOC Week 5: Fixing Jcpenneys

Fixing Jcpenney

   > Who?

    > What?

    > Where?

    > When?

    > Why?

    > How?

Jcpennney is down falling as they know it and so far they have made it worse for themselves to gain back their shoppers.(http://www.dailyfinance.com/2013/08/05/jcpenney-kraft-food-executive-win-back-shoppers/)  Penney amassed nearly a billion dollars in losses and its revenue dropped 25 percent for the fiscal year that ended Feb. 2 in the first year of the failed transformation strategy. Jcpenney failed when they had a chance to win back their entire shoppers but that did not take advantage of it. They hired Ellen DeGeneres to be their spokesperson for their upcoming commercial. Once the public found out about this a page on Facebook called a million moms wrote “By jumping on to the pro-gay bandwagon, Jcpenney is attempting to gain a new market and in the process will lose customers with traditional values and have been faithful to them over all these years… The majority of Jcpenney shoppers will be offended and will choose to no longer shop there.” Even after being scorn for being Gay, Ellen took it upon herself to have a chat about it on her show when the public saw how calm and collected she handled things and replying to the mean comment by saying “I stand for honesty, equality, kindness, compassion, treating people the way you want to be treated and helping those in need. To me, those are traditional values. That’s what I stand for.” (http://newsfeed.time.com/2012/02/08/ellen-degeneres-addresses-anti-gay-one-million-moms-group/) people obviously fell in love with Ellen once again. Then Jcpenney comes up with a commercial that was just not good enough after Ellen said all the things they needed to build a magnificent commercial to bring back their customers.

EOC Week 4: Women in advertising

Women in advertising

In our history women didn’t have any rights, in the 1800‘s was when they started to fight for their rights. Of course it wasn’t until after the 1960-70’s that they started getting somewhere. Some things that they fought for was the same educational opportunities, career opportunities with equal pay, playing in sports, freedom of choice, & shelters for abused children and women. Sexism in advertising was still everywhere. Women have always been expected to fill specific gender roles as the cleaning, cooking, or child-bearing sex machine. Today’s society has most certainly evolved to where such discrimination is extremely discouraged and looked down upon.( http://womeninads.weebly.com/history.html) During those times all advertisements were referring women as perfect housewives. Advertising has a lot to do with how our society see’s beauty in the early 1960’s beauty was a light skinned women because it meant you were not a women from the working class and a curvy figure which the complete opposite of what advertising made beauty be like to this present day girls want to have a skinny figure and tanner skin. But a lot has changed since then. Not only are women in advertising they are come up and direct the ads.  Advertising needs women, women is like a secret weapon to the advertising world. Most of the ads today have a lot of sex appeal to get the audience’s attention. There are still many arguments about women in advertising. Women get offended when a commercial comes on about a women not being able to do what a man can do. Recently there was an ad about women struggling to buy cars without a man. Women don’t need men to go car shopping because now they have to this website called TrueCar that helps them find a great car. Women were not too happy to hear how sexist the commercial was. Obviously there Is still some issues with women in advertising.

BOC Week 4: Publicis and Omnicom Merger

Publicis and Omnicom Merger

Two rivals in advertising decided to partner up to make one big advertising company. Publicis one of the big advertising companies in France partners up with an American advertising company called Omnicom merge together to create one.  In an interview with the CEO of Publicis a statement is made saying “You have a contract with Coca-Cola; Omnicom works for Pepsi. According to the Bank of America, the merger may involve conflicts of interest between clients.”  Maurice Levy then says “This question has been raised by our competitors. But at WPP, for example, their clients within the same group include Colgate-Palmolive, Unilever, Procter & Gamble, Kimberly-Clark and part of Estée Lauder [Editor's note: all are multinational corporations that produce hygiene-related consumer products]. The fact that we serve clients who operate in the same market segment is part of normal life for our agencies. We do not plan to consolidate our networks. Clients will continue to have the same number of agencies to choose from and to be served by their current agencies. The potential for conflicts is hardly a revelation, and it's up to us to find solutions. We're working on it.” Not only do they have to think about all of their clients but the location as well. They say that the new location for their company will be in the Netherlands because a lot of big European companies have their headquarters there but they will still have the operating offices in New York and Paris.  All of their efficiencies valued up to 500 million just from the combination of the two companies.

BOC Week 3: Rolling Stones Magazine

Rolling stones

The edgy stylish magazine The Rolling Stones made a perplexing decision on their august cover issue. Although the august issue made a 145 percent increase on last year’s issue, it was beneficial for the magazine. Why make the cover of a person who was on trial for bombing in Boston? The Rolling stones magazine has done this before in the 1970’s they had a cover of a Charles Mason, should we not be surprised that they did something like this again.  Dzhokhar Tsarnaev on the cover of the rolling stone magazine. The public was definitely not happy with what The Rolling Stones did, many people had a lot to say about this situation. Everyone was really surprised how the magazine made his photo more appealing than the original photo. The professor Kathleen Hall Jamieson from the University of Pennsylvania said "I can't think of another instance in which one has glamorized the image of an alleged terrorist. This is the image of a rock star. This is the image of someone who is admired, of someone who has a fan base, of someone we are critiquing as art,” The professor makes a very good point there are no other pictures where a terrorist is glamorized. The rolling stones had no comment saying “Rolling Stone did not address whether the photo was edited or filtered in any way in a brief statement offering condolences to bombing survivors and the loved ones of the dead.”   The photo cause so much controversy many people thought that the magazine was glorifying the bomber. Even though on the cover at the bottom of his picture it does say bomber in a big nice bold lettering it still seemed as though he was a celebrity. My guess is that the some of the public was offended by The Rolling Stones.

EOC Week 3: Tobacco Advertisement

Tobacco Advertisement

1. Determine the scenario: What happens in this frame? 2. What is the setting? What are the conditions? 3. Who are the people or groups? 4. What is their point of view around this specific experience? 5. What are their goals? 6. What are their assumptions? What are their perceptions? 7. Are there conflicts? Is there cooperation? 8. What are the outcomes?

When you look at this photo you can definitely describe a couple accompanying each other outside and a lady outside a window. We can see that they are happy & enjoying their time together. We can also see the gentlemen is trying to take the cigarette from her hands because he wants to smoke it. They also seem to be having a conversation the man says “Winston tastes good!” and the lady in the window is saying “like a cigarette should!” which is implying that this brand is very clean flavor that everyone should enjoy. I also imagine them saying this because of their competitors. This gives us a picture of the lifestyle of cigarette brand Winston. They also describe how clean it is saying its snow-white filtered. In the description it lets us know that the star of the Bob Cummings show on NBC says that it’s America’s favorite and his too. They have the buyers thinking that because the star from the Bob Cummings show likes it, they should try it. When saying these things gets the attention of the readers and seduces them to buy their product. The advertisers have to assume that the public’s wants them to describe the pros of buying this product. The man wanting to take the cigarette from his partner indicates that it does taste good. The other women is reassuring them that, that’s how a cigarette should taste like unlike all the other ones. I think that this is a great example of an advertisement answering all the right questions.

EOC Week 2: Examples of Ethics in Advirtising

Ethics & Advertising

Ethics in advertising is a very challenging subject. You have to learn how to advertise something that is hazardous without making any of the 100’s of million people watching get offended by the ad. People are always watching and looking for your failures for example we have an ad for alcohol , its shows people having fun, having a great time but then it never shows a  person in the commercial drinking the product. They also never show commercials of hard liquor even though beer have the same chemicals as hard liquor. Why?  Because they want to make it ethical to the viewers. But there are still many people that disagree with their ethical choices like the MADD (mothers against drunk driving). Back in the days all you needed to do was seduce a person to buy something.  But since then cultures and communities have matured and advertising have learned a lot from the people. Consumers have become a lot smarter they want to have more information, entertainment and they want the truth.
So advertiser had no choice but to learn that seducing a customers was just the beginning because now in days the truth is what sells.  Advertising for tobacco has become stricter over the years, there was an ad where Ronald Reagan was talking about the health benefits of a cigarette brand. Now there are barely any ads for tobacco and when you buy a pack of cigarettes there is a warning on the box.  One of the very most important ads on Television would be the Prescription drugs. In the old days the patient buying the prescription drugs didn’t know about that specific drug until the doctor told them about it. But now we see a lot of commercials about drugs we can buy at our close by pharmacies such as Tylenol, Advil, Nyquil, & Pepto-Bismol.  But some audience still complained about the ads. The felt that they were only giving the good that can come of it like your headache goes away, you can finally get some sleep because you’re not coughing anymore,  & your stomachache goes away. Those are all the positive effects that happened but they did not mention all the side effects that could happen and that caused a lot of controversy. So now all the commercials we see also include all the side effects that go with it. Which is good because now the consumers know a lot more about what they are buying. So when it comes to ethics in our advertising today, it has to be beneficial to the makers and the public.

BOC Week 2: About Me

ABOUT ME
I’d like to think of myself as a very giving and free minded person.  I don’t believe that fashion is just clothes, and accessories. I believe that it’s more, people express what they are feeling through their clothes. When you see a person that has confidence part of it is because of what they are wearing, they feel confident in what they chose to wear. One outfit can change a person completely. I think that is worth letting people know. I want to show the world that fashion is more than just clothes plus it’s my job as a person in the fashion industry to make people believe that clothes is your best friend when it comes to confidence.  I want to be successful in the fashion industry life not a lot of people get the opportunity and I’m not taking my opportunity for granted. As long as I’m determined and motivated I know I can do it, I’m not going to need a deadline to keep me on track.  I rather not dream about my goals I rather live every one of them.  I can say that I’m a very positive person, thinking about negatively brings people down and I rather not think that way I rather be high spirited and more positive.

BOC Week 2: Augusto Pinochet

Pinochet

On September 11, 1973, less than 20 days after he was made commander-in-chief of the army, Pinochet ordered his troops to take Santiago and ordered an air strike on the presidential palace. Allende died defending the palace, and Pinochet was made part of a four-man ruling junta led by the commanders of the army, air force, police and navy. Later he would seize absolute power for himself. (http://latinamericanhistory.about.com/od/20thcenturylatinamerica/p/pinochetbio.htm) On August 23 1973 Pinochet became commander-in-chief by his good friend the president of Chile, Salvador Allende. The president of Chile meet Pinochet at a concentration camp and then they became good friends but the president did not know what he was getting into. He was wrong to trust Pinochet, he would have never guess that his commander-in-chief would go against him. He wouldn’t realize until he was shot dead defending the palace. Pinochet ruled for 8 more years. Chile suffered with a series of kidnappings, disappearances, and assassinations. Soon after those horrible 8 years on October 1988 the people got to vote for whether they wanted a new president or no. The election is really easy for them to vote there were simply two answers “Yes or No?”  The results ended up being 55 percent NO and 43 percent YES which had meant the suffering was over. Not quite Pinochet stayed in office until free elections got a new president. After stepping down, he became a senator-for-life, a post granted to former presidents under the 1981 constitution. Later in 1998, while visiting London, he was detained by British authorities after Spain requested his extradition in connection with the torture of Spanish citizens in Chile during his rule. The unprecedented case stirred worldwide controversy and galvanized human-rights organizations in Chile. (http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/461158/Augusto-Pinochet )The charges were dismissed in 2002, on the grounds that Pinochet, by then in his late 70’s, was unfit to stand trial. Further charges were brought in 2006(http://latinamericanhistory.about.com/od/20thcenturylatinamerica/p/pinochetbio.htm). Pinochet had died before they were able to have trail. You can say that Augusto Pinochet got lucky for not having to face all of the consequences for his actions.

EOC Week 1: VW Lemon

Volkswagen Lemon

The 1960’s was when creativity really started being important to society. This all started with a man named Doyle Dane Bernbach, the man who changed the way people saw advertising forever. After knowing how WWII affected the U.S and that these cars were manufactured in Wolfsburg, Germany Mr. Bernbach toke his chances.   This ad campaign was very difficult for Bernbach considering that the Volkswagen was Adolf Hitler’s preferable vehicle. Not only because of WWII but because there were other automakers making bigger cars for families that were getting bigger because of the baby boom.
Back in the day’s ads lacked a lot of persuasion but then what Bernbach did with the VW ad campaign was that he made it so that the consumer can feel emotion towards it and could relate and want to buy it. Which really did work. He thought about the idea “Think Small” which was a great comeback to the other competing companies making bigger vehicles. In the ad it has a picture of a VW Beetle and the description says” The chrome strip on the glove compartment was blemished and it had to be replaced.” This is basically telling the buyers that they wouldn’t give them less than what they paid for even though they might not even notice if anything is wrong with the vehicle they would not sell it until it’s perfect. Mr. Bernbach also makes it clear to the readers that there are father more employees working there then cars so that they all get checked thoroughly before getting shipped off.

They definitely got the attention of many people which makes this Ad so unforgettable and one of the greatest campaigns in 10 decades. This became such an impact in the 60’s that industry professionals call it the creative revolution. Everyone that is in advertising should know about this amazing historical change in the advertising industry.
